10 Things Life Has Taught MeHeidi Sawyer - Prediction magazine

Article written by Heidi Sawyer for Prediction Magazine February 2009

  1. People change their minds, it’s not personal. We can get caught up in the details and take things personally or even as a rejection. When we realise things are not personal we can relax!
  2. Look for the bigger picture. When we view life through a tiny perspective it becomes intensified and stressful, similar to trying to drive with a painted over windscreen. If we clear the windscreen we can drive through life with more confidence and direction.
  3. Take those opportunities today – tomorrow they’ve gone. When opportunities knock we should take them. They might be risky but if life was all about absolutely knowing the outcome without some risk, we’d have no opportunity to learn from life.
  4. Animals are cleverer than us – they always get the best seat. Pets have great instincts something we could all do with learning from. They follow their intuition without question. I know my cats always get the best seat and the best view. They’re usually on the roof sitting in the sun.
  5. Follow your heart, it tells the truth. In life we get trapped in the mould of what we should be doing rather than what we want to do. Often we follow the ‘should’ path until the ‘want’ path shouts louder. If we spent more time following the heart we’d get to the ‘want’ path much quicker.
  6. Get those shoes today – tomorrow they could be someone else’s. We’ve all at some point dithered and then regretted in life. Experience has taught me; if you really want something make it happen.
  7. Treat mishaps as challenges rather than disasters. Time is wasted by going over and over the events in life where things went wrong. If we treat these things as mishaps rather than disasters, life can move forward more easily.
  8. Men can do two things at once – so they tell me. It should be so my husband tells me! We can all learn from taking some responsibility for our own thoughts and feelings rather than blame a partner.
  9. Life is not meant to be that serious. If we take ourselves too seriously everything begins to spiral downward including our general outlook, our hopes and desires. A light heart leads to a lighter life!
  10. Whatever your mother said, you will eventually say! I remember when I was growing up saying: “I’m never going to tell my child what to do!” It’s not until your adult years or when you have your own children, you realise, sometimes your mother spoke some sense.
